Yorkshire and the Humber Cancer Drugs Fund (CDF)

What is it?

 

The Cancer Drugs Fund provides £200M each year, from April 2011 to March 2014, to fund cancer medicines that are not routinely funded by the local NHS. The Fund is administered at a regional level through Strategic Health Authorities, with £20M allocated for patients living in Yorkshire and the Humber.  

What drugs will be funded?
Working with local cancer specialists, the Strategic Health Authority has identified a list of cancer medicines (the Priority Medicines List) that will be routinely funded from the Cancer Drugs Fund (see the list on the right hand side of the page). In addition, applications for cancer medicines to treat individuals with rarer cancers, including those affecting children, will also be considered. 

Who can apply for funding from the CDF?
NHS Consultant Oncologists and Haemato-oncologists may apply to the Cancer Drugs Fund for patients living in the Yorkshire and the Humber region. Other regions have their own arrangements for the CDF for their patients.

Applications for funding are made in two ways:

§         through submission of a Notification of Treatment Commencement (NTC) form for cancer medicines/indications on the Priority Medicines List.

§         through submission of an Individual Patient Application (IPA) for cancer medicines not on the Priority Medicines List.

How are notifications made?
Notification of the use of a drug from the Priorities Medicines List should be made on the relevant 'Notification of Treatment Commencement' (NTC) form, which can be downloaded from this page. There is an NTC form for each drug and indication and the correct form must be used. Notifications must be made within 7 days of the start of treatment to either the secure e-mail address or Safe Haven fax number provided.

How are individual applications made?
Individual applications for funding should be made on the form ' YH Cancer Drug Fund Application for Funding'
, downloadable from this page. Applications must be made to either the secure e-mail address or Safe Haven fax number provided.

Current position of the Fund
This website will be regularly updated to provide information on the applications that have been made and, of those, which were funded and which were not.

There will also be a regular update to provide information on the estimated amount of funding remaining.
